On Friday evening, August 8, 2025, Scopus released updated data on the indexing of academic journals. Over the weekend, the Futurity Publishing team prepared this list so you can be among the first to learn about the changes and avoid submitting to discontinued journals.
In the July update, four journals were officially discontinued. The reasons — questionable editorial quality and the so-called outlier behaviour. By this term, Scopus refers to “abnormal journal behaviour” — when its metrics or editorial processes significantly deviate from generally accepted standards. This may include: a sharp surge in citation counts, extensive cross-citation between journals, excessive self-citation or an abnormal increase in the volume of publications.
Such deviations often signal potential manipulation of metrics or breaches of editorial ethics.
These cases once again prove that even reputable journals with many years of indexing are not immune to sudden loss of status due to questionable editorial practices, citation manipulation, or other violations detected by Scopus during inspections.
