On Thursday evening, September 11, 2025, Scopus released updated data on the indexing status of scientific journals. Over the weekend, the Futurity Publishing team prepared this list so that you could be the first to learn about the changes and avoid submitting to discontinued journals.
In August, eight journals were officially excluded. The reasons — questionable editorial quality and so-called outlier behaviour (abnormal journal activity: unnatural citation spikes, massive cross-citations, excessive self-citations, or abnormal growth in the number of publications). Such anomalies indicate possible metric manipulations or violations of editorial ethics.
In the August list, four titles came from the Italian publisher Edizioni Minerva Medica: Minerva Gastroenterology, Minerva Medica, Minerva Surgery, Panminerva Medica. At the same time, this publisher still has other journals which (according to the journals themselves) are indexed in Scopus — for example, Minerva Pediatrics, Minerva Respiratory Medicine, Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences. Therefore, before submitting your manuscript to any journal from this publisher, always double-check its current status in the Scopus Source profile.

The September update showed: even long-standing and reputable journals can suddenly lose indexing, including a whole block of titles from one publisher. The trend is growing — Scopus systematically identifies anomalies in metrics and editorial practices, and the watch/exclusion lists are updated every month. Before every submission, always check the journal’s profile in Scopus and do not rely on outdated “indexed in Scopus” claims on journal websites.
If you want your publication without unpleasant surprises, Futurity Publishing is ready to help you at every stage.
