EXCLUDED JOURNALS FROM SCOPUS: APRIL–MAY 2026
Scopus has released its April–May 2026 update — and this time, 25 journals have lost their indexation. Two months. Twenty-five journals. Gone.
Different countries, different fields, different publishers — from Elsevier to niche regional titles, from engineering journals to mycology bulletins. What they share is a single outcome: removal from one of the world’s most authoritative scientific databases.
This is not an anomaly. This is how Scopus works. Indexation is not a lifetime guarantee — it is a conditional approval that can be revoked at any time, with no personal notification to authors whose papers are already submitted or in press.

Journals from Our 'Removal Candidates' Series — Now Officially Removed
The April–May update confirmed the removal of three journals that Futurity Publishing previously flagged in our Candidates for Removal from Scopus series:
ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts — flagged in Candidates for Removal from Scopus: Fourth Edition for signs of unstable editorial practices.
Scientific Culture — identified in Candidates for Removal from Scopus: Third Edition as a journal with a high probability of deindexation.
MSW Management — also covered in Candidates for Removal from Scopus: Third Edition for a policy shift inconsistent with Scopus indexation standards.

Conclusions
Twenty-five journals removed from Scopus in two months. Thirteen ceased publication entirely. Twelve changed their editorial policies to the point where Scopus could no longer confirm compliance with its standards.
The names on this list include journals from Elsevier, SAGE, Taylor & Francis, and World Scientific. This is not a problem confined to obscure or low-quality publications — well-known publishers are not immune.
What this means in practice for every author:
- a paper submitted or accepted before a journal’s removal date risks not being credited in academic evaluation;
- publishing in a removed journal can become grounds for rejection at dissertation defence;
- grants and academic positions tied to Scopus publications are also at risk.
The April–May 2026 update is yet another confirmation of a simple but inconvenient truth: checking your journal before submission is not overcaution — it is essential due diligence.
Researchers who base their decisions on up-to-date data, rather than a journal’s reputation from years ago, are far better protected.
